THE STORY
For six and a half years, our church family has been on an amazing journey. We have gathered in borrowed halls, squeezed into rented rooms, met outdoors (literally for years), and even been kicked out of buildings!
Through every transition, we've been reminded that while buildings change, God's faithfulness remains the same.
In all the uncertainty, He has continued to grow us. We’ve watched people discover Jesus and be baptized, witnessed marriages restored, seen young hearts shaped by God’s Word, and rallied together to meet urgent needs across our city.
Throughout all of this, there has been a consistent and deep longing to put down roots.
Not simply for convenience… but for mission.
Not to settle in, but to reach out.
Not to have a place of our own, but to offer hope to others.
And as we stepped forward in faith through the ROOTED campaign: praying, giving, and planning for land and a future building…
God did something we never could have planned. He opened a different door!
A local church made the decision to close their doors, and in an incredible act of generosity and trust, they offered to sell SLO City Church their entire property and existing church campus.
What we had been pursuing in phases… God has now made possible all at once.
Instead of 8 acres, this is over 60 acres.
Instead of years of development, this campus can be ready for us in a matter of months.
Instead of a $12–15 million project, this is a $6 million opportunity.
It is a sacred and unexpected provision. And we believe it is directly connected to the faith and generosity of our church family.
ROOTED has not changed. If anything, it has accelerated.
Our vision remains the same:
Establish a permanent home in the heart of our city where our church can gather, grow, and be sent out on mission.
Start planning for turning the property into a thriving community outreach center where children can play, families can be supported, the vulnerable can find resources, and every person can encounter tangible hope.
The Opportunity
Purchase a 60+ acre church campus in San Luis Obispo for $4.5 million and prepare it to become a permanent home for SLO City Church and a center of hope for our community. All-in budget for purchase and rehab is approx. $6M - $6.5M.
Because of your generosity, over $2M of committed funds has already been deposited into the bank.
Now we’re stepping into this next chapter together, and we’re trusting God to complete what He has started.

Frequently Asked Questions
—
How much should I donate?
There is no “right” amount. We encourage you to pray and ask God for guidance, then consider what you are able to give joyfully and sacrificially. We need donations at every level and are encouraging the whole church to participate. It will only be through our collective generosity that we can reach our goals!
Should I redirect my regular tithe to ROOTED?
No. We encourage everyone to continue their regular giving to support the ongoing ministry and operations of the church. ROOTED is a special season of giving that is above and beyond our regular tithe, allowing us to pursue this vision together without compromising current ministry.
—
Why are commitments spread over two years?
While gifts can be given at any time, many families find it easier to fulfill a larger commitment by spreading it out over time. A two-year commitment allows people to participate generously without creating unnecessary financial strain.
—
What if my financial situation changes during the commitment period?
Faith commitments are not legal contracts, they are prayerful intentions. If your circumstances change, you can adjust your giving at any time. Our heart is not pressure, but participation rooted in trust and faith.
—
Can I give something other than cash?
Yes. Many people choose to give stocks, cryptocurrency, DAFs, or other non-cash gifts, which can also offer tax advantages. Our team is happy to help walk you through next steps.
—
Are donations to ROOTED tax-deductible?
Yes. All gifts to ROOTED are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You will receive a giving statement for your records.
—
What sort of financial accountability is in place for this campaign and building project?
We are committed to stewarding this project with full transparency and accountability. We have a Building Fund Committee and a Building Fund Financial Procedures document > Click here to view.
—
What will the funds be used for?
Building Fund donations will be deposited directly into our separate Building Fund bank account. Funds will be used at the discretion of the management team and church leadership with the sole purpose of securing a permanent home for SLO City Church, including purchasing land, developing facilities, and building spaces that allow SLO City Church to serve families more fully.
—
What happens if we raise more than the goal?
Any additional funds will be applied directly toward reducing future debt, expanding ministry capacity, or accelerating the long-term vision for serving families and the community.
—
What if we don’t reach the full goal?
Every gift matters. If the full goal is not reached, leadership will prayerfully evaluate next steps and adjust plans responsibly, always stewarding resources with transparency and care.
—
How can I stay informed about progress?
We will provide regular updates throughout the campaign, celebrating milestones, sharing stories, and keeping the church informed about how God is working through our collective generosity. You can also find up to date information right on this page!
