Refined Focus | Triumph Over Temptation
We would learn how the temptations of Jesus are relevant to our lives and use his response as the blueprint of confidence and trust in God.
Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
GOD DOES NOT TEMPT US.
James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.
SATAN CANNOT ACT INDEPENDENTLY OF GOD.
1 Corinthians 15:47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven.
The Temptation Of Jesus (Matthew 4:5-6)
Doubt Targets Two Foundations:
1. Jesus’ Identity
2. Jesus’ trust in God’s promises
Proof That Jesus Is God’s Son:
- Before His birth, Heaven declared it. (Luke 1:32 “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David.”)
- The demons recognized him. (Mark 3:11 And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”)
- His followers confessed it. (Matthew 16:16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”)
- God the Father confirmed it. (Mark 3:17 And behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”)
Psalm 91:11-12 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
The Triumph Of Jesus: (Matthew 4:7)
God protects, cares, and provides for us as we keep His ways.
Doubt never draws us closer to God. It always pulls us away.
Hebrews 3:12 Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you away from the living God.
Matthew 6:26 “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”
